Read: An introduction to the book of Romans
Observation: The Epistle to Romans was written from Corinth during the Apostle Paul’s third visit to that city. It is the most complete exposition of the New Testament which puts forward the central truths of Christianity. This book deals with the redemption of all of mankind showing no favoritism to Jews or Greeks because all mankind has been found wanting before God. Sin has entered the human race and there is no one on this old earth that can be righteous to deserve God’s glory. Therefore, it is because of God’s grace that anyone can come to his salvation. In this incredible exposition of God’s grace Paul begins to show us how this grace has manifested itself and worked itself out in our day-to-day lives to eventually bring us to heaven.
Application: There is so much packed into each chapter. On most days we will attempt to still move at the chapter-a-day pace but sometimes we may spend two days on one chapter. It would also be an impossibility for this simple devotional guide to capture all that is in one chapter so this is meant as only an introduction to this powerful book. Again, remember, the hope of this daily devotional study is to help you get engaged in God’s word on a daily basis by just capturing one simple thought to dwell on for the day in hopes that it will slowly change your thinking.
Prayer: God, lead all who read these words into your word. It is your words and not minewho changes our thinking. Reveal to us through this study of Romans your incredible love for all of mankind.
