Read Romans 7
Key Verse 21: “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.”
Observation: Paul just wrapped up talking about the fact that what he wants to do he finds hard to do and what he doesn’t want to do seems to press in and become so easy to do. This is the epic battle inside our souls of righteousness fighting against the sinful nature.
Application: I wrote this verse down because Paul states this like a natural law when it comes to our salvation: I want to do good, but evil is always there pulling at me to look and move its way. I see this law at work in me and can identify with it. I know the good I ought to do, I know what is right in various situations, but then I fail to have the willpower or strength to actually carry it out. That is where verse 25 comes into play, it is not me who is able to carry it out but the one who delivers me through Jesus Christ – it is God working through me and in me that allows me or enables me to be righteous.
Prayer: God, give me your righteous power working inside of me so that I might carry out the good that I know I should do!
