We Have Jesus

We Have Jesus

Read Genesis 41

Key Verse: “28 It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.”

Observation: Pharaoh begins to have some bad dreams and no one in the kingdom is able to tell him what his dreams mean.  In this situation, the cupbearer finally remembers Joseph from his prison days.  Pharaoh then summons Joseph into his court where he tells him about his dreams and asks if he can interpret them.  Joseph withdraws to seek God’s counsel on what these dreams mean and comes back into court to tell Pharaoh what God is about to do.  This phrase really jumped out at me as Joseph states that is it something God is about to do, not mother nature, not the routine cycle of the earth but God is going to bring seven good years and seven bad years.  Joseph then gives the Pharaoh a road map for how the next 14 years should play out if Egypt is to survive.  Pharaoh then asks if there is anyone as wise as Joseph and he raises Joseph up to interpret God’s road map through the good years and bad years and Joseph now becomes second in command of all of Egypt.

Application: A lot of people today would like God to give them a road map to the vast future just like He gave to Pharaoh so that we could avoid the problems that lay ahead.  But most often today, God does not do that because he has already given us something better in Jesus Christ.  Jesus’ call on our lives is that we are just to stay close to Him and if we stay close to Him, He will protect us from the dangers that lay ahead.  So ultimately, we do not need a road map because we have Jesus and he will guide us every moment of our lives if we just stay close to him.

Prayer:  Jesus, thank you for being my daily guide.  Jesus, enable me to stay close to you which I know involves living a life that is pleasing to you and avoiding a life that leads to destruction.  Help me to live in this day doing what you have asked in this moment and trust you with my future.
